Search and copy Court of Appeal documents

You can apply online to search and copy Court of Appeal documents and exhibits.

What you can search or copy will depend on:

  • relevant laws (e.g. if a document or exhibit is sealed by a court order, you need a court order to search or copy the material)
  • whether you’re a party to the proceeding
  • whether the appeal is currently before the court.

To help prepare, parties to current appeals can also apply for material on the associated primary court file (i.e. a file held at a court where the case was first heard that contains material about the order, conviction or sentence being appealed).

How to apply

Complete the online form to apply to search and copy Court of Appeal documents.

If you have a court order to access a file, you’ll need to upload a copy.

We prioritise requests in the order we receive them. Depending what you ask for, it can take up to seven business days to prepare your documents—we may need to seek permission from another court or tribunal. If there is urgency to your request, once you have made an application through the online form, you may send an email to the Registrar for consideration detailing reasons.

If you receive your copies by email or post, we send them once they’re ready. Otherwise, we let you know when they’re ready to view or collect.

You can view or collect your documents at Level 2, QEII Courts of Law Complex, 415 George Street, Brisbane.

Fees

You may need to pay a fee if you’re not a party to the proceeding or you want copies of the documents.

Before you have to pay anything, we'll tell you the total fee and your payment options. After we get your payment, we'll process your application.
